Unconformable contact with the underlying Cretaceous (Wangshi Gr; Jingangkou Fm).

Upper contact

It has a conformable or disconformable contact with the overlying Eocene Kongdian Fm.

Fossils

The upper part of this formation contains abundant sporopollen, which is characterized by dominance of the pollen of Porosa, especially Triporopollentites, associated with Betula, Juglans, Myrcea and Ulmus with catkin, of which Paraalnipollenites with a peculiar shape is well developed and there is significant quantity of pollen of ancient angiosperms such as Aquilapollenites. These species are often found in the Paleocene in the Pacific region of the northern hemisphere.

Age

The basalt in the lower part has an isotope age of 55.74±0.9 Ma. [If verified, then the "entire Paleocene span" placement on the Chinese lexicon strat column is too old.]
